Well i finally did it i managed to actually run a half marathon :) i actually managed 13.59 miles, which considering i was out trying to achieve 11 miles is a good run for me and i'm really happy with that.
I managed to hit the magic 13.1 mark in just under 2 hrs as well which is a milestone for runners who have not been running long.
I don't feel as bad now at the fact that i am still only running once a week, but i know now that i can achieve my distance required for the GNR run itself.
The more practice i do the easier it will get and the more my legs will get used to it.
Short blog tonight as i am tired after the run.
Bye for now :)

GNR training blog week 15,28th May 12 >
Had two training sessions this week on my 2 days off monday and tuesday.
I managed to do a 20 mile stint out on my mountain bike while it was a nice sunny day :) it was the first proper ride i'd had on my bike this year so far,and i had forgotten just how uncomfortable the seat was :( but i managed it,and i must say really enjoyed it although it was a tad breezy.
I pretty much followed my running route out down the Coast rd and through Churchtown and back into Southport, then turned around and did it again in reverse.Wasn't a bad ride overall.
Day two was a 10K run as my legs were tired from my cycle ride, and i was regretting it when i started as my legs felt empty with regards to energy, but i trundled on.
It was a bit breezy which made it a bit difficult and i found myself stopping a few times for a 3 min breather as it was hot again, and i had a 5 min walk half way round again.
Strangely overall i matched my fastest time for a 10K and with the stops i had it was a good time,so i was very happy overall.
In the upcoming weeks i will be stepping up my training a bit by doing a few 3-4 mile runs during the week,as well as my one long run per week,so we'll see how i get on :))
Bye for now

GNR training blog week 14, 21st May12>
Had a hard run today (thurs) it was sunny and hot and i ran mainly along the Coast Rd and seafront which had no shade whatsoever so it was a struggle,i had to stop a couple of times in the shade of a tree or bush to cool down a bit and get a breather.
The run started at Victoria Park on Rotten Row and i ran around the outside off it and up the entire length of the Coast Rd to the Plough roundabout,i had a break for 5 minutes while there sat on a wall in the shade as i really was overheating and worried i may pass out if not careful.
I then started the long slog down to the Botanic Gardens, through Churchtown Village and to the top of Roe Lane were i popped into Spar for a Powerade for the run back.
I then ran as per usual down Roe Lane,Manchester Rd and into town, upto the Marine Lake and down The Promenade and past Splashworld and back to where i started at Victoria Park where i had a well earned sit down in the shade to rest and cool down.
Overall it was my longest ever run, only by 0.1 of a Km but it was longer :) and on a hot day.
Total run was 10.5 Miles, next week hopefully i'll manage an 11 miler or at least over the next couple of weeks anyway.

GNR 2012 week 13 training blog 15/5/12.
Well no weeks 10-12 as i have had a few lazy weeks and haven't done any real training, but i'm back on it now and have done two days back to back training this week in an attempt to get back on track.
I did a 5k run to my parents on monday and said my hello's and had a brew but i had struggled to do the run as i was boiling on the run and my head felt like it was going to explode lol.
After a little rest i then ran another 5k home, which was easier than the first as it was a little cooler.
On Tuesday i felt like i needed to make up for my poor perforance on Monday and needed to catch up with the weeks of missed training. So i did a scenic non stop 10k run around Victoria park, the promenade, marine lake, marine drive and finally Victoria park again.
It was windy but sunny and not too hot so overall it was an enjoyable run.
I managed to pace myself at an easy pace and maintain comfortable breathing and i managed a total time of 49 minutes which was the same as my previous fastest 10k so i was very happy with that after missing several weeks :)
So hopefully i may get another run in this week but will probably be between 5k and 10k as i'm planning on entering the Southport Funfest 5k on the 10th June so i'm going to try some 5k training to improve my speed.
Bye for now folks.

GNR training week 9 blog. 21/4/12
Well this week entailed just one run again as i had worked 6 days straight and had no energy for a run until my first day off which was today (21st).
I mapped myself a 10 mile run on the `map my run` app on my pc and set off at roughly 8pm in the evening on the run itself.
It went quite well,i started at a slow and steady pace and it took 3-4 miles to a comfortable breathing pace were i didn't feel in the slightest out of breath.so then it was all about staying at that pace and watching my running form and making sure i got the most out of my legs.
I ended up running past my Thai Boxing gym at roughly 10km/6.2 miles and walked for a few minutes while i ate a Milky Way to give me a little energy for the slog back to town.
It was quite a windy day so i was surprised that i managed to maintain my usual pace of 5.30mins per km,this is not particularly fast at all but for me its a good pace to control breathing effectively.
Unfortunately i couldn't do a Thai Boxing class this week or last due to when my days off fell, and sadly i won't be able to do one next week either :(
Anyway onwards and upwards i'm still on schedule with my distance so i'm more than happy.

GNR training week 8 blog 12th April 2012.
Did a 9 mile run in 1hr 18 min which is slightly faster than my average pace, but i ran out of energy and will power so i need to work on my endurance still.
When the weather warms up and the nights warm up i'll start squeezing an extra run in during my week as one run a week is not enough.
I'm still on schedule though as my plan is to increase my runs by an xtra mile every month upto Aug so i'm ready for 13+ miles.
I've had a few training plans come through,so i'll be looking at them a bit more closely to work out whats the best plan for me.
Bye for now :)

GNR training blog week 7 (2nd Apriil 2012)
No week 6 as i had a rest week as i was on a week off and had a few social events :) i.e. a few drinks.
Well week 7 was only one day of exercise as i ran to my Thai boxing class, did a one hour class and then ran back again.
Roughly 3 miles there and 3 miles back.It was a bit easier this time compared to last time and i'm getting more used to running with a rucksack on,even though its not ideal.
I was planning on another run later in week, but didn't manage it.
So i'm afraid not much to report this week, but it was the easter hols, and i was working most of it.
